FT: Rangers 1-1 Littletown Reserves
5th September 2020
In what was not only a local derby but also a meeting of two teams predicted to do well this season, Littletown Reserves visited Wakefield Road this afternoon in the opening game of the 20/21 YAL Division Two season.
The match couldn't have started any worse for Rangers with the opening goal being scored by the visitors after just 10 seconds! A loose and underhit backpass to goalkeeper Tom Booth saw James Blane race onto it and finish past the onrushing 'keeper.
Despite this very early set back it was in fact Rangers who became the better side and saw chances being created frequently. Efforts from Rob Smith and Aaron Wroe were followed by a desperately close attempt from defender Ben Fishman, whos lunge towards a crossed ball was agonisingly short.
It didnt take long for Rangers to draw level however with Craig Thomas picking up a headed goal from a long range free kick. The lofted ball delivered by Christian Thewlis was met by Thomas who flicked the ball into the Littletown net to make it all square going into the break.
The second half saw no goals but plenty of action with both sides going close to grabbing all three points. Rangers will count themselves lucky after a late effort from James Goodall flashed past the far post in what turned out to be Littletown's final effort.
A very well fought match between two sides who will no doubt be challenging at the top end of the division come the end of the season.
